Corrective eyelid surgeryEyelid skin is exceptionally thin and is thus susceptible to stretching. With time, stretched skin turns into an overhang which forms into a fold. Radial wrinkles (crow's feet) appear around the outer edge of the eye. Lower eyelids may bulge, which is known as bags under the eyes. Upper eyelid surgery is more common. Excess skin is removed and incisions are planned so as to place the future scar in the crease of the eyelid where it will be practically invisible. Bags under the eyes can also be eliminated through removal of excess fat tissue. The presence of an anaesthesiologist is recommended so that he can administer painkillers and sedatives intravenously. Rest and cooling gel or ice water compresses are recommended after surgery.
